Okay so I got to school at around 7.40am expecting to be fairly early, but met Germ at the foyer and saw two other yearmates heading towards the room. By 8am nearly everyone was in school already, and we started changing and putting on makeup at around 830. Meanwhile, Carey'd brought two cans of tuna and two family-sized bags of bread, and was making tuna sandwiches for the year ("I bet this is the cheapest lunch you've ever had! Three pieces for only fifty cents! :D")
That done, we started practising in the room, but someone came up with the bright idea of going outside to practise in the quadrangle since the competition venue would be loads bigger than the room.
So we did, and along the way loads of people stopped to stare at us -.- Just then, Sara came and joined us, and the melody line was much improved with her voice.
I can't really remember what we did next - we went back into the room and did more changing and makeup before rushing out to the foyer to meet the juniors and supporters. We saw Ruth, Mr Lim and Mr Lee there! Ruth was doing OM (good luck for next week!) and Mr Lim and Mr Lee were there for some function or another.
Then we all piled onto the bus, which brought us first to the old Cedar campus (looking abandoned and dilapidated) before the driver figured out the route to the new one with the help of yearmates' GPS-enabled iPhones. Their new campus is so pretty :O and the foyer looks more like some rich person's stylishly decorated home than a school.
We were shown to the holding room, where we stoned/played iPhone games/slept for the next two hours or so before going for lunch. After lunch, we continued stoning/playing iPhone games/sleeping/touching up our makeup for another hour. Phun.
Rehearsal at 1.30 was awesome. The VIs were doing this introductory dance item to the tune of Headz Up, and the Song/Dance finalists were to be introduced halfway through. Basically we were supposed to hide behind the curtains, then emerge and run into the "dancefloor" when our group names were called, before doing a set of dance moves, all of which culminated in a collective point towards the stage, from which the judges would make their grand entrance.
It was all great fun, really. The rehearsal lasted till 3pm, and it felt more like a dance party (albeit a bit awkward and embarrassing, since many groups screwed up and ran to the wrong side of the room) than a technical rehearsal.
The real thing felt a bit surreal, actually. We did our intro dance thing then sat down in the front row (there are certain benefits to being one of the first groups to perform), then RI did their dance and we were next. Halfway through our item I was thinking things like "oh shit we're so dead; the melody can't be heard" and "MUST SMILE AT JUDGES. SMILESMILESMILE". And before we knew it, we were done and, uh, the judges didn't say much, but then again we were the first group for Song and they hadn't had the chance to see the rest yet to get an idea of what it was supposed to be like.
Then we sat back down and watched the other groups perform. I mean, why waste our good seats, right? Bollywood was a popular choice among the Fusion Dance groups; I suppose it makes sense, it being India's unique way of infusing its culture into film (which, being from the West, tend to have very Western influences).
My dad came to watch, but he only managed to catch the last two groups performing and didn't get to see us at all. Aww.
The results for our category were...not exactly nail-biting, but our most nerve-wracking moment was probably when they were announcing the 2nd place winners.
Then we changed and removed our makeup (mostly the super thick layer of eyeliner) before being herded out of the school campus. Potong Pasir has a fairly tranquil air to it, though it's a bit...odd to see all the super old flats (especially when one lives in a less-than-five-year-old new squeaky-clean HDB estate) Their HDB blocks also have a slightly different design.
We went to Plaza Sing for unit bonding + dinner. Swensen's was pretty full when we arrived, so the manager took down Miss Chan (Pretty) Peilin's handphone number and promised to call when he had seats for all 29 of us. We ended up having Unit Bonding in a deserted-looking staircase landing next to the Swensen's kitchen. Lol.
The manager actually came to find us after half an hour (Lingzhi and I were starting to suspect that he'd forgotten all about us :/), and he managed to fit the whole unit into the restaurant. Yay.
Audrey and I shared a banana float and chicken baked rice. The banana float came first, and we happily dug in, eating from the same plate. Then when we were almost done, Audrey decided to chirp all excitedly that we'd consumed a lot of each other's saliva.
Ew. That did it for me. I'd almost managed to forget that I'm actually saliva-phobic. When the baked rice came I scooped out my half and dumped it on Vanessa/Yingxin's unused soup dish to eat :/ The baked rice was pretty good, but a bit salty.
Then Lingzhi, Vanessa, Verna and I had to go home, so...yeah, we went home. Anticlimactic much. They all abandoned me and took the red line D:
I got home in about half an hour, drank three bowls of soup and, exhausted, went to bed. Yay. End of day.
