I need time to gather my thoughts before blogging on the human rights workshop (it was really good btw), so here's a filler post.

I'm starting to really like xkcd. (:

Gatecrashed Shell Dialogue today as a *cough* representative of GAC and/or MPP (actually it was more of a "MR LEE/MR CHEW CAN I PLEEEEASE GO FOR SHELL?" thing), but I was so tired I fell asleep halfway through the second speaker's speech when he was showing us the statistics and only woke up when he was almost done talking. It didn't actually teach us anything new, but as Xinyuan said - maybe it didn't plan to teach us stuff, just hammer in what we already know and make us do something about it.

Thought the scramble/blueprint alternative worlds were quite interesting, though I wonder if we're ever going to be able to get our act together and actually do something about all this instead of just going through empty talk. Although I suppose I'm not helping much either by sitting here blogging about it :X

Youth Human Rights workshop tomorrow - "Whose Right Is It Anyway?" Sigh it'd better be worthwhile; Proletariat Poetry Factory has a gig tomorrow at the Arts House and they smsed the lot of us asking if we wanted to go, but Yoony's sick and Xinyuan and I are attending the workshop so we're not going. Mehh.

I'm slightly annoyed because I realised this morning that I can't play for 311 during Netcarn because I'm class captain. Which sucks. I want to play so badlyyyyy. Hope Mrs J lets us play D:

I hate C5B2.

...Am just saying. Is it just sour grapes (that C5B2 can't help me much) or do I truly believe that the new GPA system doesn't really reflect one's real grade? That someone with straight As can get the same GPA as someone without?

Honestly, I don't know what I'm thinking sometimes. (And no, I didn't get straight As thanks to Chinese. Now shut up already.)

Went for HIC - Humanities In Celebration at Hwa Chong yesterday. To cut a long story short, it was really, really good (except for one which was ruined by the casting of Preener as the female lead). The Last Tea Party was delightfully creepy, but the guy in the off-shoulder little black dress looked so much like Shiyuan that I got quite freaked out.

Shan't say much here, but it got us thinking - why are we so...castrated when we had nothing to begin with? And why is it that we all know it's impossible to stage such a performance in RGS because we'd never even be able to get it past ourselves first?

We have much to learn (or unlearn, as Xinyuan would say) from these guys.

I keep blogging because there's nothing better to do when you're convalescing (holy shit I got that word right on the first try yeahmanzzz I rock) at home.

Anyway this post is going to be on how much I love Grade 6 piano!

...Um, I love my piano pieces. A lot. And ahaha I'm learning them really fast (my idea of "fast" is averaging 2 lessons per piece; one intro and one to finish off and start a new piece - piano geniuses out there stop laughing) much to the surprise of my teacher, who's given up on me and thinks I'm a major piano retard.

It's not even totally my fault. I mean, those who know me will know that I have a major problem with sweaty palms. (I'm like getting sweaty palm now just THINKING about sweaty palms ohman.)My fingers keep slipping off the keys at the fast parts. Sometimes when they're really slippery they slide right off the damned keyboard. How to play the piano like this?!

But I shall survive the odds. Slowly. And improve on my sight reading ahaha I failed it in Grade 5 and my teacher was like "Eh the guy's actually quite lenient already; you ALMOST passed!"

I want to learn to play The Buccaneer, but I need to concentrate on the pieces I'm actually playing first. Sigh.

[edit] Anabelle I see you! And actually I secretly stalk your blog sorry :X hope you don't mind!

sometimes you listen to the stories and think -
old family drama, this is
or "it'll never happen to me"
until you realise (in...
History classes, ironically?)

that we are never free from the tapestry
and always run, like ants,
to the same deadly poison

Had to miss SL + Urban Trail today. Hate being sick.

But on the bright side it seems like I might actually have a chance of recovering within the week! Sneezing's down, and the fatigue comes and goes but at least it doesn't weigh down on me all the time. And I can actually taste my food a little, unlike yesterday when I thought the world was going to end because I couldn't taste my alphabet soup.

Year calendar says it's Claire's birthday! Happy birthday Claire yay (:

[edit] I posted this on Saturday 2pm, but for some weird reason Blogger's screwing up on me.

Today was a singularly sleepy day.

Woke up in the morning with a vague memory of the two dreams I had last night: one about a kidnapping (I escaped but then felt guilty because I'd left all my friends behind) and the other about a gunman attacking RGS. Sometimes our lack of a proper security system scares me greatly. There are so many ways a terrorist can attack :X

Then I reached school and went downstairs for shirt collection and realised I had to pay for AV photos :/ didn't have enough money after paying for class + RC photos, so my order got cancelled. Ah well.

RA Seminar today; prep was quite rushed because they only told us we had to set up a booth yesterday morning and we basically spent yesterday rushing out the designs and quotes. Then we started printing everything in the library this morning just before the seminar (with our own money too GRAH we're getting printing fees back from the school even if the talking kills my throat).

Our design is pretty! We had a row of tables dividing the classroom into two parts: the American Romantics and the British Romantics. We put all our PTs (and a bunch of soft toys O.o) on the Transatlantic Divide ahaha so cool.

It would've been okay then because RALA is amazingly efficient when we want to be, but then Yvonne rushed into the library to tell us that we didn't have a room to set up in.

Wtf? Apparently RA History took our room, because THEIR room got taken by some Sec4 class or something. Still, that's no reason to boot us out of ours! Maybe they didn't realise it was our classroom, but it'd have been nice to check. Worse still, all of them apparently decided to file out of their conquered space at 8.35 am when we were already resigned to our fate and had started setting up in the shared classroom on the first floor. SHEESH. How annoying.

Business was relatively brisk, but practically nobody turned up for our talk :X It's not our fault we didn't have fancy graphics or powerpoint slides like Geog RA, because we were the only Sec3 RA class doing RA Sem and someone decided that we shouldn't be informed about the seminar until after paperchecking. Grah. Yvonne did most of the talking and I did the Difficulties/Personal Experiences bit. Lydia and Karen were in charge of the (made on-the-spot) powerpoint and fielding questions.

Had a GAC meeting after we wound up for the day. I've no idea why I'm in GAC, actually; MrLee just decided that we were in GAC and therefore...we were in GAC. So Mr Chew was standing there talking about social advocacy and everything, and I shan't put everything I feel on record but I think One Chapter's pledge-taking ceremony during morning assembly was decidedly fake. *resists temptation to say more*

Finally at 2pm we had WSC selection trials. A World Divided; think I flunked it. Whatever. Couldn't concentrate on writing the essay because I had a bad runny nose thanks to the cold I finally developed after 2 weeks of on-and-off sore throats.

Urgh I feel like I've too much on my plate already. Wonder how Xinyuan stands it.

I'm currently feeling sick and somewhat miserable because my nose is blocked and I've lost my sense of smell. Sian.

Is it just me, or is Lady Gaga rather...not-thin?

Yingxin and I were sitting on top of the slides at the chalet playground (and trying to think of pop-inspired exercises) when she suddenly asked which dance moves were unique to Lady Gaga (in the way MJ is known for his moonwalk and crotch grab).

So I was looking at her music videos on Youtube, and suddenly realised that she is Not Thin. In fact, Lady Gaga is fairly solid. Which is good, because the music industry is too full of waif-like singers who look like a good push would bring them down.

And did I ever officially announce that EYAs are finally over? I haven't? Well...

EYAS ARE OVERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and were since Wednesday actually lol)

Chalet is over :/

Actually I feel quite guilty now because the ma'ams and juniors gave us super nice presents (esp for OA and PT) and we thought trying to get wrappers from Subway was the epitome of Hard.

Speaking of which, they are SO annoying!

Scene in Thom(p?)son Plaza's Subway:

Me: "HELLO CAN I BUY YOUR WRAPPER FOR 50 CENTS"
Random Auntie At Counter (RAAC): *looks down* "Huh?"
Me: "Wth not your obiang cloth- I mean, the sandwich wrappers." *points at the 6-incher wrappers*
RAAC: "No, we don't sell wrappers."
Me: *grinning* "Well, then, could you give me one for free?"
RAAC: "What do you need them for?"
Me: "Um. Wrapping. Stuff."
RAAC: *to another RAAC* "EH SHE SAYS SHE WANTS A WRAPPER!!!!!"
Other RAAC: *walks over* "Eh sorry hor we scared the Subway later find out then we kena. You never know ah..."

Wtf. Like they'd ever find out! Anyway Ruth the Awesome managed to get the wrappers from the Subway near her house yay :D think she ordered lunch and got extra.

(Actually everyone's like blogging about their feelings now, but I currently don't feel anything. At all. It's not numbness, just a sort of...walled-in feeling? Like a math question I can't get. Aiya hard to explain la. Anyway it's just really weird.)

[edit] Forgot to thank Germaine for sending me Nobody and the handphone version of No Boundaries! Major lifesaver man thanks <3 Ruth and I nearly went crazy listening to No Boundaries like twenty times, but it was all pretty worth it la.

On a happier note, I'm no longer homeless! :D

We'd almost given up looking after the Flasher Incident and the Noise Pollution Problem, but then we took a walk around that area and fell in love. It's surprisingly un-ulu. (Btw speaking of ulu, READ TODAY'S LIFESTYLE ON ULU (now Surprising) SENGKANG. Nyeh nyeh nyeh to all the Jurong people!)

You can see the Singapore Flyer from the living room window.

...Now here comes the fun part: GUESS WHERE (like which area) MY NEW HOUSE IS. :D Teehee. Those who get it right win a Fruitip from me.

(Of course if I've already told you the answer don't participate. Duh. And don't go round telling everyone or I'll be forced to spend the rest of my allowance (currently $10 for the rest of the month hoho) on Fruitips!)

Will be away until tomorrow afternoon for POP chalet!

Oh and it's Carey's birthday today too ahaha how cool is that. Happy birthday Carey!

From xkcd.com. Yes, I have succumbed.

"Man is his own star; and the soul that can
Render an honest and a perfect man,
Commands all light, all influence, all fate;
Nothing to him falls early or too late.
Our acts our angels are, or good or ill,
Our fatal shadows that walk by us still."

Epilogue to Beaumont and Fletcher's Honest Man's Fortune

Just felt like putting this up. It opens Emerson's Self-Reliance. I love American Lit, but boy do I hate the exams. It feels like rape. Bad rape.

And I've been MIA lately, partly because of the exams and partly because of something else I'm not at liberty to disclose now. Will explain when everything's finalised.
Friday, October 9, 2009

Omg howwww I totally don't feel like mugging Physics/American Lit. And thinking of the RALA paper fills me with dread; it's going to be another 2h behemoth and I totally don't know anything (much) about American Lit!

Mmm I wanna play mahjong after EYAs. Grawr to Vic and Kester who got me hooked :/ Doesn't help that my entire family hates gambling so the only times I get to play mahjong are when we have a class reunion and we troop to Kester's house and he brings out his mahjong table and we all play mahjong. (Well, except for the hardcore Wii people. But mahjong is infinitely funner :D)

3 more papers to go :D Freedom on Wednesday! (Haha but I'll need to chiong other stuff after that too).

Math was wayyy easier than we thought (mainly because Mr Yang kept telling us that it was Not Easy and we were all panicking) except for 8b)ii). It would've been an okay paper, except that they gave us so much time that it was like a mental holiday :/ And one of the questions was super annoying la I thought Vic would laugh at me for not seeing the solution but she didn't see it at first too!

I just realised that this blog is becoming really negative. Let's talk about something cheerful instead.

BARNEY IS A DINOSAUR IN OUR IMAGINATION~~~

Okay whatever. I'll tell you a true story instead. It happened in my bathroom at 5.50am in the morning.

Sequence of events:

1. As usual, I was changing into my uniform in the bathroom, so I grabbed my blouse and was about to put it on when I heard a faint clink.

2. It sounded like something metallic dropped, so I turned around just in time just to see the backing of my Ebadge sink into the watery depths of the toiletbowl.

3. I spent the next 10 seconds thinking through my options. To retrieve or not to retrieve?

4. Internal debate: I could always replace the backing again (this is, like, my 3rd one) or I could just pick it up. If I replaced the backing I'd have to go hunt for another badge with a suitable backing, but I don't really have that many to spare. But hunting for waterproof gloves would take too long, so if I picked it up I'd have to do it with my bare hands. :/

5. I decided that I really couldn't afford to waste any more backings, so I

6. took a deep breath

7. and plunged my hand into the water.

...and you thought you had a bad day. Be glad you're not me.
Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Oh boy this is so embarrassing. My batchmates are spamming comments on the Anwar Youtube page. And openly declaring they're from RGS. WTF.

...Some are even asking for help with the video?! Yikes I can't believe people can do such xia suay things.
